A video of Spider-Man: Miles Morales on the PS5 reveals just how quickly it loads via SSD, with the game taking mere seconds to appear.
In the future kids are going to wonder how people ever put up with waiting nine seconds for a video game to start, but for now it seems a minor miracle thanks to the PlayStation 5’s super-fast SSD.
The video above appeared on Reddit and shows how long it takes Spider-Man: Miles Morales to load, with the game taking around seven seconds to get from the PlayStation 5 dashboard to the main menu of the game.
It then takes a mere two seconds to go from the main menu to actually starting to play, which is unimaginable with current generation tech.
The quick loading is thanks to the fact that the PlayStation 5 has a super-fast SSD instead of a normal hard drive, which means all games will load similarly fast.
There will be variance though, depending on the game, with some no doubt loading more slowly depending on their complexity – and how many annoying company logos they have before you get to the main menu.
We’ve been playing the game all weekend but can’t say anything about that until the embargo is up, so we don’t know who’s risking the wrath of Sony’s lawyers for five minutes of anonymous internet fame.
The Xbox Series X/S also has a SSD and although it’s not as fast as the one in the PlayStation 5 it should be capable of similar feats, just maybe a few seconds slower.
