The MCU has been working overtime this past week as Dr. Strange 2 hit cinemas and Moon Knight's finale arrived on Disney+. However, Disney's focus will return to the Star Wars branch of its big IP tree later this month when Obi-Wan Kenobi debuts on May 27. Disney has also confirmed production has begun on another Star Wars show in the offing, Star Wars: Ahsoka.
A photo showing a chair with Ahsoka written on the back was posted to the Star Wars Twitter account with the tweet, “Ahsoka, an Original series, starts production today.” Despite only just starting production, Disney still has the show potentially debuting before the end of 2022 according to Gamespot. However, it seems more likely that we won't see the next Mandalorian spinoff until some time in 2023.
Speaking of Mando, it was during season two that Rosario Dawson made her on-screen debut as Ahsoka. Despite the Jedi being synonymous with Star Wars at this point, and a fan favorite with a lot of hardcore fans, Ahsoka's appearance in The Mandalorian was the first time she has ever made the jump from animation to live-action.
Ahsoka has previously played a starring role in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. The Togruta started her journey as Anakin Skywalker's Padawan. Yes, that does mean Hayden Christensen will be appearing in the show as Anakin. That's after the actor is reintroduced to the Star Wars universe for the first time since Revenge of the Sith. Skywalker was shown via the assembly of Darth Vader during the most recent trailer for Obi-Wan.
We're almost a week removed from Star Wars Day, and this year's May 4 felt somewhat uneventful. Probably because many fans were waiting for some sort of announcement regarding a Jedi: Fallen Order sequel. No luck there, but some people seem to think Obi-Wan was hinting at character cameos from the first game happening in the Disney+ series that starts streaming on May 27.
