The cast of Streets of Rage 4 just got a whole lot bigger. After some confusion this morning with a leaked release date (which ended up being inaccurate), DotEmu has confirmed that the latest iteration of the classic Sega beat-em-up will feature 12 characters. These additional characters will be from the series’ past entries and will even feature 16-bit versions of themselves.
If you were hoping for the likes of Max, Skate, and Dr. Zan, you’re in luck. All three of them will be returning alongside some boss characters and even the original cast in their Genesis glory. If the new music doesn’t cut it for you, either (what are you, crazy?!), the soundtracks from Streets of Rage 1 and 2 will be selectable during gameplay.
The more we learn about Streets of Rage 4, the better it sounds. While it would have been nice if that April 23 date was real, it does seem likely that the game will be landing this month. DotEmu has previously indicated a Spring 2020 date and the game seems to be coming together nicely.
Even if it doesn’t release, there can’t be too much time left to wait. With all of these cool, retro additions and the added polish from the PAX East build, I have a feeling this will be the ultimate Streets of Rage experience.
