Super Nintendo World will be the first ever theme park solely dedicated to the iconic video game maker, and it’s set to open its doors in 2020. The Mario theme park was originally pencilled in to launch in spring 2020, just ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games. It’s unclear whether this timeline will get pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic, but ahead of the grand opening Nintendo fans have got some great news.
Twitter account @themeparX, which provides construction updates on theme parks around the world, said Super Nintendo World looks “almost” complete.
They highlighted an aerial shot taken of the new land heading to Universal Studios in Japan, which was captured by Instagram user imaiko02.
The picture shows Super Nintendo World from above, and it looks like the vast majority of construction work has been completed.
Alongside the picture Twitter account themeparX posted: “Super Nintendo World at @USJ_Official is almost ready as seen in this new photo by Instagram user ‘imaiko02’.
“Over fifty construction updates of the new area here: http://themeparx.com/universal-studios-japan-expansion/?p=21784#post21784”.

Chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts, Tom Williams, previously spoke about what visitors will be able to expect when they come to Super Nintendo World.
Williams said two rides will feature at Super Nintendo World in Osaka when it opens.
These rides are a Yoshi’s Adventures attraction and a Mario Kart ride. There will also be an interactive element to Super Nintendo World.
Visitors will have a red magnetic bracelet that features Mario’s iconic M logo which can be used to interact with the land’s environment.
With this wristband visitors will be able to keep tabs on scores gained through interactions at the theme park and on rides.
Williams also teased that scores will somehow be linked “with your game console so you can build on it and come back again”.
Williams also added that Super Nintendo World will be built across three levels.
Super Nintendo World sounds like it will be a childhood dream come true for many, and it won’t just be gamers in the Land of the Rising Sun that get to experience it.
There are plans to open Super Nintendo Worlds in the West too, with plans for a Nintendo presence at Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood.
