The gamers have spoken! A recent survey has shown just who video game fans think the hottest male and female video game heroes are, and the results are interesting. Link, the silent protagonist of the Legend of Zelda franchise came out on top with Lara Croft taking the top spot for the ladies.
The survey was conducted by Goodluckmate.com and established its list using data from 20 different fan sources, including this list here at The Gamer. They used Google’s Keyword Planner as well. Research to tabulate the total number of times “sexy character time” and other variants was conducted from December 2019 to November 2020.
While Link came in first, Geralt from The Witcher wasn’t too far behind. Interestingly enough, the image picked to represent Link in the survey is from Breath of the Wild. He was searched for a total of 54,800 times in that period, as compared to Geralt with 4,400 searches. A very noticeable gap between the two.
Geralt most likely gained popularity due to his Netflix adaption. Henry Cavil’s charming good looks and the catchy “Toss a coin to your Witcher” probably helped too. Rounding up the top five for males were Master Chief, Cloud Strife, and Sephiroth. Other well-known characters who also made the list were Vega, Kratos, Dante, Chris Redfield, and Kano.
On the female side interestingly enough, is that while Link may have come out on top, Princess Zelda didn’t even crack the top ten, landing 11th on the list. She was passed on in favor of Rosalina, Bayonetta, Tifa Lockhart, Palutena, and Ada Wong. The top five on that list include Samus Aran, Jill Valentine, Chun Li, and Widowmaker.
The numbers on the sexiest female side are much higher. Lara Croft was searched for 169,100 times compared to Samus Aran at 112,000. Jill Valentine wasn’t too far behind with 110,400.
Lara Croft is the first female video game character to have her own series. Tomb Raider also continues to honor that legacy with its year-long anniversary. Samus has been around longer than Lara, and was first introduced back in 1986. The love for her and the Metroid series seems to slowly be giving Ms. Croft competition. It will be interesting to see if any of the results change next year!
