The Sims has long been known as a series of games where you can be who you want to be and have the freedom to manipulate the lives of your Sims however you like. The Sims 4 doesn't differ from this format and offers a sandbox experience where you can control every aspect of its world and inhabitants.
As the great Uncle Ben – no, not the rice guy, the one from Spider-Man – once said, "with great power comes great responsibility." The Sims 4 offers you incredible amounts of power, so we're going to take a look at some things you should absolutely never do.
Cheat Yourself Rich
The Sims 4 is a life simulator, so obviously, we work hard for our money. There are a huge number of ways to earn Simoleons, and they are all options we use frequently. There are structured careers, freelance contracts, and several ways to work from home, so why would we take shortcuts?
With all these ways to legitimately earn money, we absolutely don't bring up a cheat box and type in motherlode for a quick 50k cash injection. Nor do we use that dirty free real estate cheat to make buying a house free. We only know these things work because we saw someone else do it. Yes, someone else. Who absolutely didn't look exactly like us.
Break Up Bob And Eliza Pancakes
You'd never catch us saying that we hate Eliza Pancakes and that we want to free Bob from her tyranny. Just because she's incredibly annoying and doesn't appreciate him at all, doesn't mean we'd seduce him and drive them to divorce. We'd never do anything to ensure that the patchy relationship never gets patched up.
Nor would we break up any other relationships. It's not like we have a massive crush on Bella Goth and want to marry her or anything. Absolutely not. She's in no way a style icon and legend that we'd quite literally (in-game) kill for.
Also, we would like to make it clear that we didn't start that fire at the Pancakes the other day. Eliza is just that bad at cooking. It wasn't our fault that the fire brigade was held up by some random Sim chatting to them. It also wasn't our fault that Bob was at work and unable to help. It was just a tragic accident that just happened to only affect Eliza. You can't prove otherwise.
Start A Cult
We all know cults are bad, right? So you absolutely shouldn't make a charismatic Sim who charms those around them, encouraging them to join the household. It would be very wrong for that charming Sim to then persuade and manipulate the surrounding Sims into doing all the chores, earning tonnes of money, and generally doing their bidding. Absolutely wrong.
No one pure-hearted has ever decided to do this just to see if they can get a bunch of Sims to fulfill their every desire, with no thoughts for their own hopes and dreams. Nothing good comes of starting a cult to get everyone to worship you. Not even if you felt you were unfairly excluded from the family fortune and are seeking to climb to the top in any way possible. It's absolutely not an incredibly fun thing to do. Not even for science.
Lock People In Your Basement
The Sims 4 has a feature where you can lock doors to help stop unwanted visitors. We obviously know that this is for sensible purposes, like making sure the pizza delivery Sim doesn't make themselves at home, or your neighbour doesn't decide to keep 'popping around.'
It is absolutely not to be used to keep Sims trapped in your basement. Who gave you that idea? We didn't set up an area where Sims can eat, sleep and pee and then have no other option but to create paintings and sculptures that we can sell for profit. Surely that's inhumane?
No wait, don't go in there. The shed is err dangerous. Lots of spiders. Poisonous ones, yes. Also sharp things. Just lots of danger really. No, it's fine. We have a specialist coming to fix it. Yes. Any day now.
Become A Killer
There are currently 27 ways to die in The Sims 4 and you can directly influence them all, except death from old age. Sims can be trapped in pools, starved, eaten by cow plants, hit by meteors, poisoned by pufferfish, frozen in the snow, and many, many more. If you're inclined towards being chaotic evil you could take advantage of this information to go on a killing spree.
In The Sims 4, you can kill for money, or for fun. It's especially easy if you have a list of all the deaths and how to trigger them. Some might say too easy. Not us though. We have no idea how enjoyable it is to see how long it takes to trigger the Black Widow achievement deliberately. Those deaths last week were just accidents. It's not our fault that the fence around the pool was built while someone was in it, and it blocked the ladder. Now excuse me my taxi is here. No, no, just a vacation…
