Developers Raven Software are surprising everyone with a special download for Call of Duty Warzone and COD Modern Warfare.

Modern Warfare proved very popular with fans when it launched back in 2019 but no longer receives substantial updates.

These are now mostly reserved for Warzone and Black Ops: Cold War, which have been integrated to form a united player base.

This allows Activision to launch the same content in both games, and there are big plans for Call of Duty Warzone Season 4.

Four new multiplayer maps, five new weapons, new Points of Interests in Verdansk, and a new quest in Outbreak that sets the stage for the next free Zombies map are all being planned for the coming weeks.

But in a surprise move, it has also been announced that a new update is coming to Call of Duty Modern Warfare this month.

As part of the Call of Duty Season 4 launch, MW fans will be able to download a special texture pack.

This will also be available in COD Warzone and will help boost the visuals in both games across all platforms.

The new hi-res download will not be available today, but will be going live next week on Tuesday, June 22.

A message from Activision explains: “Following the launch of Season Four, Warzone and Modern Warfare console players will also have the option to download a new High-Res Texture Pack on June 22.

“This will add more high-definition textures to the game, which is optimal for those running the game at higher resolutions such as 1440p and 4K.

“The High-Res Texture Pack will have an approximate download size of 7.2-7.6 GB, depending on the console.”

The full Call of Duty download sizes are as follows:

  • PlayStation 5: 7.6 GB
  • PlayStation 4: 7.6 GB
  • Xbox Series X / Xbox Series S: 7.2 GB
  • Xbox One: 7.2 GB

It should be noted that while the new Battle Pass will be coming to Modern Warfare, there are no official plans to provide further content for the game.

Modern Warfare is somewhat integrated with the two other COD games, which is mostly focused around the experience system.

Meanwhile, Warzone is getting new points of interest to explore in Verdansk, as well as a fresh storyline to follow.

With the Zombies now gone and Verdansk back in 1984, Activision are starting to lay the groundwork for the next big game update.

A description for the new Red Door event reads: “Something’s gone wrong in Verdansk, and the first step to finding out what is in those crashed satellites.

“Interact with Sat-Link impact sites throughout the city for event rewards and powerful items, and step through the mysterious Red Doors if you’re ready to explore Verdansk like never before.

“Our intel cannot explain the origin of these mysterious red doors around Verdansk, but one thing is certain: They allow you to [[REDACTED]] around the [[REDACTED]]. What’s behind them? Explore and enter them to [[REDACTED]] across the [[REDACTED]].

“Red Doors won’t [[REDACTED]] unless you ping them, and after you step through, there’s no telling [[REDACTED]] exiting out the other side… and stepping into a [[REDACTED]].”
