Witcher Fan Is Putting Together Real-Life Bestiary

The Witcher 3 is full of animals, monsters, and all kinds of interesting critters, and they're neatly catalogued in an in-game bestiary, but that isn't enough for Reddit user ellie1398. They're putting together a bestiary in real-life complete with their own artwork. So far, they've got an entire page done for bears and one started for panthers.

"Know that ditty about the bear 'climbing the mountain, to see what he could see?' Biggest load of rubbish I've ever heard," the bestiary opens. "When a bear climbs a mountain, it's not to see. It's to hunt. To kill. Bears are omnivores, meaning men find a place in their diet."

You can find bears in The Witcher 3 either in mountains or woods, and they tend to be encountered alone – not that it makes them any easier. They're one of the many animals that pad out The Witcher's roster of enemies, a slightly more familiar foe than drowners or plague maidens. There are, like with any enemy in-game, ways to counter bears, but hopping about menus can be a bit boring – using a real journal has that authentic, personal touch.

"I just started this today, so the only full page I have is 'bear'," Ellie replied. "But once I've done a few more pages, I'll make another post." If you're interested to see The Witcher 3's extensive bestiary brought to life, it might be worth keeping an eye on their Reddit. You can follow profiles now, making it even easier.

Some people even responded asking for Ellie to make copies and sell it when it's finished which Ellie replied with, "If I figure out how, why not!" They're also including animals and enemies from the DLCs, but they can't fit everything in with the size of their journal, unfortunately.

Ellie isn't the only one journaling games, as another fan is documenting their trek through Lordran in Dark Souls. It's not quite a bestiary, but it's a similar idea of expressing love for a game through artwork. Only with theirs, it's drawings of Solaire, Black Knights, and the Undead Burg. You can follow both of their journaling on Reddit, granted they keep sharing updates.
