We’ve already had the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands beta, but Blizzard has revealed the recommended and minimum specs for WoW’s big expansion ahead of launch. Apparently you’ll need an SSD.

This might be the first time we’ve seen a major game have an SSD listed among its minimum specs, but perhaps we’ll see more of this once the next generation of consoles release. After all, the PS5’s SSD is being touted as a game-changing feature, and the Xbox Series X will house its own SSD. Any cross-platform games hoping to take advantage of those speeds will also need a similar setup on PC.
We’re speculating here, but perhaps this is Blizzard’s goal. After all, World of Warcraft is getting controller support along with the release of Shadowlands. While the developer said it doesn’t want it to feel like a console game, it’s strange that this support is being added only now, on the verge of new console launches. Blizzard has been releasing its games across more and more platforms in recent years, so perhaps World of Warcraft could be heading to PS5 and Xbox Series X.

One of the major features of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is a level squish, which aims to shake up Blizzard’s MMO and make it feel fresh again for veteran players. We also have a look at the four Covenants featured in Shadowlands – they should keep players busy if they decide to sprint towards the endgame. If you want to get in the mood, Blizzard recently released World of Warcraft Afterlives, a new animated short set within the game’s universe.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is releasing on PC on October 27. If you don’t have one already, you better buy yourself an SSD ahead of then.
