WWE 2K22 has been delayed until next March, it has been revealed.

The game was initially pencilled in for a late 2021 release date, but has since been pushed back.

As revealed during this weekend’s Summerslam event, WWE 2K22 has now been given a tentative March 2022 release date on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

The news was revealed alongside a brand new gameplay trailer, which featured a mixture of in-ring action and wrestler entrances.

Fans were given a look at Superstars such as Rhea Ripley, Roman Reigns, The Miz and Rey Mysterio, alongside Goldberg, Bobby Lashley, and Bayley.

“If you haven’t noticed, things are about to hit different with WWE 2K22!” reads a 2K Sports post. “Get ready to hit the ring with new controls, stunning graphics, and a redesigned engine!

While the delay should result in a better game, there are rumours WWE isn’t happy with the 2K partnership.

Indeed, according to a report on Sports Gamers Online, WWE was against the decision to delay the upcoming release.

2K Sports pushed for a delay in order to add new modes and gameplay features, and to update the character roster.

With WWE making a number of high-profile talent cuts in recent weeks and months, there were fears the 2K22 roster would have been hugely outdated if the game launched in its usual window.

The WWE 2K22 delay should give 2K Sports enough time to make the necessary adjustments.

The report also claims that WWE has been harder to deal with since the release of WWE 2K20.

As a reminder, WWE 2K20 was a complete mess when it launched back in October 2019.

A critical and commercial failure, the game had more bugs than the Boogeyman’s dinner plate.

If WWE 2K22 suffers a similar fate, then don’t be surprised if the WWE and 2K Sports partnership comes to an end.
