A new trademark has been found this week that points to Microsoft expanding on its current Xbox Series plans.
The Xbox Series X will be the tech giant’s next console, with a release date set for holiday 2020.
And when it hits shelves, it could become the most powerful console available on the market.
But no price has been confirmed for the Xbox Series X, leading some to question how much the final cost will be.
Are Microsoft and Sony avoiding the big price reveal for the PS5 and Xbox Series X so that they stay ahead of each other?
There’s no clear answer, although we now know that there will be two different PS5 consoles available to buy in 2020.
One will ship without a drive, making it the cheaper version and probably more affordable for PlayStation 5 fans.
“At PS5’s launch, we will offer two options: a PlayStation 5 console with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition without a disc drive,” Sony confirms in a new statement.
“The PS5 gameplay experience will be the same, so the choice is all yours. While there are some slight differences in the look of each model, for the overall design, we wanted to deliver a console that’s bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation.”
So will Microsoft do the same with the Xbox Series X and provide a more affordable option for fans?
There have been rumours that an Xbox Series S model has been in the works, although Microsoft has since denied such a project.

But a new trademark has been found that certainly opens the door to more than one Xbox Series console being released.
As revealed by Windows Central, Microsoft has now trademarked the Xbox Series product name.
This now sits alongside the existing trademark for Xbox Series X, and while it doesn’t guarantee an Xbox Series S is in development, it leaves the option of more Xbox Series consoles launching in the future.
Both Sony and Microsoft are yet to announce pricing for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but analysts are expecting a price tag of around £499.
Microsoft has already said they are willing to be flexible with the Xbox Series X price, which means they could try to undercut the cost of the PS5.
In fact, this is just one of two ways the Xbox makers could try to make their proposition more appealing to gamers’ wallets.
A cheaper Xbox Series S console being in the works would offer less power but a lower price point.
It is rumoured this could be priced as low as $299 – which is significantly less than the expected PS5 and Xbox Series X price tags.
But there is one big difference between the Lockhart and the regular Series X.
The Series S is expected to be a much lower-spec console, boasting four teraflops of power compared to the Xbox Series X’s 12 teraflops.
