Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition release date on Nintendo Switch leaked

It seems the remaster of Wii game Xenoblade Chronicles could be out sooner than expected, as Amazon Mexico lists a release date.

As any Switch owner will be keenly aware there is something of a mystery as to what Nintendo is planning to release for the rest of 2020, as at the moment they haven’t got a single big name game scheduled.

Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 were announced years ago but nothing has been seen of them since and they aren’t even down for a particular year yet. Instead, the only exclusive games confirmed for 2020 are Square Enix’s Bravely Default 2 and a remaster of Xenoblade Chronicles.

The Wii role-playing game from Monolith Soft has already been remastered once, on 3DS, so its release again reeks a bit of schedule filler, but according to Amazon Mexico it’s out on 29 May.

Retailers often give made-up release dates in order to encourage pre-orders but while being the end of the month is slightly suspicious, the 29th is a Friday and the listing hasn’t been taken down as we write this.

That probably means there’s a good chance it’s true, especially as both the US and South Korean age rating boards have already rated it – implying it’s out relatively soon.

Whether the leaked date is accurate or not it still doesn’t answer the question of what other big games Nintendo has planned for the rest of the year, as a remaster of a 10-year-old Wii role-player is clearly not the sort of thing to keep Switches flying off shelves this Christmas.

Rumours have suggested that there might be a general topic Nintendo Direct next week, but so far nothing has been announced, with yesterday’s being an Indie World livestream.
