Sega’s latest Yakuza franchise game, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, will be released as a launch title for Xbox Series X, Microsoft announced during Thursday’s Xbox Series X gameplay event. The game will also be released on Xbox One. Yakuza: Like a Dragon was published in Japan in January for PlayStation 4. An exact release date was not announced.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a role-playing game set in Japan, following Ichiban Kasuga. Its battle system has been revamped for the new entry; no longer fighting in real-time, characters participate in turn-based combat between four characters.
Microsoft said Yakuza: Like a Dragon will support Xbox Series X Smart Delivery; players that purchase the game for Xbox One will be able to play the game on the new console after its launch date. Players will be able to use cross-save functionality between the two consoles, too.
The Xbox Series X is expected to launch during the holiday 2020 season. Microsoft plans to post updates each month in the lead-up to the console. Earlier in May, Xbox head Phil Spencer told CNBC that the console is on schedule for its original release window, despite the coronavirus pandemic. Spencer said the “bigger unknown” is if game production will be impacted.
