Lawyers for Nintendo have reportedly filed copyright claims to take down videos and posts related to the Super Mario 64 PC port that was released in early May, according to TorrentFreak. A 12-minute video of the game in action was removed from YouTube
The fan-developed port of Super Mario 64 grabbed headlines for its 4K resolution and ultra-widescreen support, and the ability to play the game with controllers like an Xbox game pad. Unlike other versions of the Nintendo 64 game playable on PC through emulators, the project ran natively in DirectX 12.
Nintendo, vigilant about protecting its copyrights, has reportedly enlisted the law firm Wildwood Law Group to try to scrub listings of Super Mario 64 for PC from websites, including Google search results, Reddit posts with direct links to download, and file-hosting services.
The release of Super Mario 64’s PC port comes after efforts to decompile the Nintendo 64 game’s source code and a massive leak of Nintendo documents and console source code.
Polygon has reached out to Nintendo for comment on the copyright claims and will update when the company responds.
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller usually goes for $69, but right now Walmart is offering a $10 discount on the gamepad. (Supply is limited, so act fast.)
