Universal Studios’ Super Nintendo World theme park opening will be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The area was expected to open sometime this summer.
No date was given for the opening of the Super Nintendo World area of the park, but Osaka’s Universal Studios branch re-opened to locals on June 8 at a limited capacity.
The Mario-themed area was originally slated to open with Mario Kart and Yoshi’s Adventure rides. More areas based on Bowser’s and Princess Peach’s respective castles were to be added to the area along the way. When it opens, visitors will be able to explore the park with magnetic wristbands that allow people to interact with the park and keep a score.
The creation Super Nintendo World theme park was originally announced in 2015. Though Universal Parks & Resorts chairman and CEO Tom Williams promised to open Super Mario World expansions in other Universal Studios locations after the Osaka area opens, we likely won’t be seeing it come stateside for a long, long time.
Switch Lite
Nintendo Switch consoles are often sold out, but you can still pick up the handheld-only Switch Lite, which is perfect for portable gaming.
