It’s got some strong competition, but Cyberpunk 2077 might just be the biggest game of 2020. The follow-up to developer CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk shifts the developer’s focus from the past to the future, but the choice-driven storytelling, strong characters, and evocative world-building CDPR is known for all look to be intact. It also stars Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand, which is pretty cool. After a series of delays, Cyberpunk 2077 is currently set to release November 19, so it’ll just make the cut-off for 2020. If you’re looking to pre-order the game on PS4, Xbox One, or PC, we’ve got you covered with all the latest info on pre-order bonuses, its Collector’s edition, and more.
CD Projekt Red pulled back the curtain even more on Cyberpunk 2077 last week with its Night City Wire livestream, which debuted 25 minutes of all-new gameplay. The stream gave an in-depth look at the game’s world and a gameplay mechanic called Braindance. A Cyberpunk 2077 tie-in anime produced by Studio Trigger for Netflix was also announced.
We recently got the chance to go hands-on with Cyberpunk 2077 and play some of the game’s early missions and side quests. Be sure to check out senior editor Tamoor Hussain’s early impressions of Cyberpunk 2077 after spending four hours in Night City.
The game is based on Mike Pondsmith’s tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020, so the 2020 release date makes total sense. However, the game itself is set 57 years later in the futuristic android-filled world of Night City, where android augmentations are an integral part of people’s lives. There looks to be plenty of deep customization and lots of options when it comes to first-person combat. The team has confirmed Cyberpunk 2020 will not have microtransactions, will be DRM-free on PC, and have DLC similar in size to Wild Hunt.
