The World of Assassination storyline is coming a to close next year with Hitman 3. Pre-orders are available now, and if you want to reserve your copy, there are two different editions to choose from and some good news about next-gen upgrades.
Hitman 3 releases January 21 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and it’s coming with PlayStation VR support. Developer IO Interactive announced that you’ll be able to play the entire World of Assassination trilogy in VR, though it seems like this special mode will only be available for PlayStation VR. No PC VR options have been announced.
Hitman 3 promises to once again take players all over the world to pull off assassinations in the most ridiculous of ways, and some of the levels already look as exciting as the first two games’ fantastic stages. The first Hitman 3 level trailer focused on Dartmoor, an old manor that is the crime scene of a murder. The house is inhabited by a family with a dark past, and you’re not entirely sure whodunit–it definitely seems inspired by old detective movies. The trailer shows the illustrious dining room, halls, and secrets that you’ll likely use to navigate the mysterious house. Other screenshots have shown Agent 47 standing on top of a huge skyscraper and inside of a beautiful, elegant building that is definitely full of rich criminals (aka your targets).
Will Hitman 3 next-gen upgrades be free?
Yes. If you pre-order either the digital PS4 or Xbox One version, then you’ll get a free next-gen upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X version respectively. Unfortunately, it’s not clear if the physical versions will work in the same way, as some games have different discs for the PS4 and PS5 versions and won’t let you upgrade from the physical PS4 version when inserting it into a PS5–instead, you’ll be playing the PS4 version via backward compatibility.
Hitman 3 pre-order bonuses
Every Hitman 3 pre-order comes with the Trinity Pack, which is a collection of new items inspired by past games in the World of Assassination trilogy. It’s unclear exactly what these will be, and whether they’ll be based on levels, weapons, or something else entirely, but if you want some extra tools to pull off your hits with, then it sounds like a nice little bonus for buying early.
Pre-order Hitman 3 standard edition | $60
The standard edition comes with the $60 game and its pre-order bonuses. No matter which console you buy it for, you’ll also get a free next-gen upgrade to either PS5 or Xbox Series X.
Digital:
Pre-order Hitman 3 Deluxe edition | $80
The Deluxe edition costs $80 and comes with a lot of extra content, including the pre-order bonuses. There’s no season pass, so it doesn’t look like there’ll be any additional DLC levels as of now. However, it’s still packed with some “Deluxe” Escalation contracts and more:
- Deluxe Escalation contracts
- Deluxe suits and items
- Digital soundtrack
- Digital “World of Hitman” book
- Digital commentary (mission introduction)
The Deluxe edition also comes with the free next-gen upgrade, so whichever version you end up buying, you’ll also be able to play either the PS5 or Xbox Series X version for free. PlayStation Plus subscribers get a special discount of $72.
