Codemasters, the British studio responsible for the Dirt Rally and F1 franchises, has confirmed that a new entry in the Dirt series will “roar to life very soon.”
In a community blog post, Codemasters said this new Dirt experience will be handled by a separate in-house team, one removed from the Codemasters group that works on Dirt Rally. The studio didn’t provide any other information on this new Dirt title, such as intended launch platforms, expected release date, and the like.
“Prepare to see something new roar to life in the world of Dirt, very soon,” Codemasters said. “Developed by a separate Codemasters studio to the Dirt Rally team, we’re incredibly excited about what’s around the corner. We invite you to be part of a brand new experience, while also continuing to enjoy our definitive Rally offering.”
Codemasters confirmed that while the studio is focusing on the future, 2019’s Dirt Rally 2.0 has not reached the end of its lifecycle yet. While there are “no plans” for additional Dirt Rally 2.0 seasons, the studio said that “some minor updates and surprises” are still on the way. In addition to this, Codemasters assured that “Daily/Weekly/Monthly Challenges live on, Clubs are stronger than ever, and you have plenty of esports action to look forward to.” Plus, the usual hangout spaces–the forums, the fan-made Discord, Reddit, YouTube, Twitter–will remain unaffected.
In conjunction with preparing something new in the Dirt series, Codemasters announced it has “big plans” for the future of Dirt Rally. The studio said it will be a while before we hear anything about it, though.
Dirt Rally 2.0 was the latest entry in the franchise, launching in February 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. On GameSpot sister site Metacritic, the game currently sits at an 84 on PC and PS4, and 82 on Xbox One.
