Last year, Creative Assembly and Sega announced a new game in the Total War franchise, Total War Saga: Troy. On Tuesday, the studios announced that they will launch Total War Saga: Troy exclusively onto the Epic Games Store on Aug. 13 of this year. But unlike other exclusives, players can download Total War Saga: Troy for free, to keep, for the first 24 hours of its launch.
The Total War games are intimidating for new players, but this initiative offers a free way for players to test their interest in the franchise. “Not only does this mean that we can bring the tales and legends of Troy to a wide audience through Epic’s massive platform, but it also means new players will get to try Total War for the first time,” said Tim Heaton, chief studios officer at Sega Europe Ltd.
While Total War Saga: Troy will launch on the Epic Games Store, a press release from Sega revealed it will later come to other platforms, specifically mentioning Steam, sometime after August 2021. In its blog post, Creative Assembly announced it has no future plans for Epic exclusivity, and that this is a unique opportunity for Total War Saga: Troy.
Total War Saga: Troy puts players into the famous battle from Homer’s Iliad (you know, the one with the horse). Players can play as legendary heroes, such as Achilles of Greece and Hector of Troy. Depending on their side, players will need to defend the city of Troy from the incoming Greeks, or burn the city to the ground. Total War Saga: Troy will still focus on the turn-based combat and real-time battles that have made the series so popular.
