Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s newest map features paint-filled exploding rats

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s new Cheshire Park map has only been out for a day and the community has already discovered an Easter egg puzzle. The new map is set in London, England in the area surrounding a park. Near the center of the park, there’s a town square with a notably strange statue of the Pied Piper, which is where this Easter egg really begins.

Now for those of you who aren’t up on your German myths, the Pied Piper was legend about a rat catcher who played a tune on his magical instrument that gathered all the rats in town together. However, the town’s people refused to actually pay the Pied Piper, so he released the rats and played a new tune that let him lead away the town’s children instead. (German myths involve a lot of child stealing.)

So, what does this have to do with Call of Duty? Well in the Cheshire Park map, you can perform a series of bizarre tasks to help the Pied Piper gather his rodent companions.

To start the Easter egg you’ll need to find and destroy five mouse traps. These traps spawn at random locations one at a time. Once you destroy the last one, a piece of cheese will spawn for you to grab. After that, a different wheel of cheese will appear somewhere else on the map. Track the cheese down and bring it to the Pied Piper statue and he’ll begin to play his summoning song.

Once his song is played, rats will swarm the statue and peer up at their mythical master before exploding into a burst of neon colored paint. As odd of an addition as this may seem, it’s fun to know that Infinity Ward is open to placing silly secrets like this on Modern Warfare’s maps.
