Ghost of Tsushiuma: Legends, the post-launch, multiplayer add-on to Sucker Punch Productions’ 2020 open-world adventure, will be available as a stand-alone product beginning Aug. 20, the same day Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut launches for PlayStation 5 and PS4.
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will be available on both consoles in the PlayStation Store for $19.99. A blog post Wednesday morning promised that it is “the same Legends content accessible by owners of Ghost of Tsushima,” excepting certain cosmetics that are unlocked in the single-player campaign.
So that will include everything that’s gone into Ghost of Tsushima: Legends since its October debut, plus several content updates that will begin with an Aug. 20 patch. That patch rebalances Legends’ Survival mode, shortening its session length, and adds new, weekly variations to the Survival Nightmare challenge. This patch is free to everyone who owns the base game Ghost of Tsushima or who buys Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut or Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.

On Sept. 3, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will get a new mode called Rivals, in which two teams of two players compete in a horde mode format. The goal is to wipe out more enemies and progress through more levels than the other team, but players can spend Magatama (the in-world currency) to get perks, Curses, and other pickups to thwart their rivals’ progress. Spend enough and the Final Stand waves begin. Finish those waves before the other team, and you win the match.
Alongside Rivals, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will get a Gear Mastery system, which expands Legends’ progression system beyond its current 110 levels. Players with gear that has topped out at 110 can now bind it to a class of Legend and activate Mastery Challenges which, when completed, will upgrade its Ki level to 120. Mastery Challenges will also unlock a new Ability and new Techniques for each class and, when complete, will allow players to add a second perk to their loadout.
The new Rivals mode and all additional content is available to those who already have the standard Ghost of Tsushima game for PlayStation 4. (Just to be clear, you also get all this stuff with Director’s Cut on either platform, too.) Sucker Punch says that, beginning Sept. 10, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will also get four free weekly content updates. These will include another Rivals map, new Survival maps, and a new version of last year’s raid, Trials of Iyo, which increases the difficulty but “offers challenges in bite-sized chunks.” The new raid will have a new leaderboard as well.
