How to find your PS5’s captured gameplay and screenshots

The PlayStation 5 offers some impressive built-in capture tools, allowing you to grab gameplay clips and screenshots at 4K resolution with HDR color (including videos at 60 frames per second). But if you don’t know the PS5’s user interface very well — understandable, since it’s, y’know, new and all — you might have trouble finding those captures so you can share them with the world.

Captured screenshots and videos live within the PS5’s Media Gallery. In the main tab of the app, you’ll see thumbnails of your screenshots and clips, whether you’ve taken them yourself or a game did. If you have a USB external drive plugged in, you can tab over to the right to browse the folders on the drive for files that the PS5 is compatible with. There are a few different ways to get to the Media Gallery, whose icon looks like a camera sitting in front of a screen. If you’ve used the app recently enough, it should be one of the 10 icons in the Games tab of the PS5 dashboard. (You won’t find it in the Media tab, which is for streaming entertainment apps like Netflix and Spotify.) But that’s the only way it’ll show up in that row of icons; the PS5 doesn’t allow you to customize the list or pin items.

How to find the PS5 Media Gallery app

If the Media Gallery has disappeared from the dashboard, there are other methods to pull it up. One way is to go into your Game Library — scroll all the way to the right edge of the dashboard — and then press R1 to get to the Installed tab. Scroll to the bottom of the list of installed games, and you’ll see four icons: PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Now, Media Gallery, and Remote Play.

You can also reach the Media Gallery from the PS5 system settings menu. (To get to the settings, head to the top right zone of the PS5 dashboard by pressing triangle or navigating there with the left analog stick, and then hit the gear icon.) Enter the Storage section of the settings, where you’ll see a breakdown of the items on your PS5’s internal SSD. The four categories there are Games and Apps, Media Gallery, Saved Data, and Other.

Finally, you can also get to the Media Gallery from the PS5’s Create menu, which pops up when you tap or hold the Create button on the DualSense controller (depending on your settings). When you’ve got the Create menu pulled up, navigate to the left side of the screen, where you’ll see a thumbnail of your most recent captured screenshot or video. Click it to open a pop-up menu, and you’ll see a shortcut button labeled “Go to Media Gallery.”

There’s one more way to get to this same shortcut: If you’ve recently taken a screenshot or video clip, you can press the PlayStation button to bring up the PS5’s Control Center. If you scroll all the way to the right through your Activity Cards — the large boxes above the row of Control Center icons — there should be a card containing your most recent capture. If you open that window, you’ll get the same aforementioned pop-up with the same “Go to Media Gallery” shortcut.

Once you get to the Media Gallery, you can view all your captures, copy them to a USB drive (if you have one inserted), share them directly to external platforms like Twitter or YouTube, or delete them.
