PGA Tour 2K21, from HB Studios and 2K Sports, added two more multiplayer game types in an update on Friday. One of them lets players wager virtual currency in an online skins game format.
“High Rollers” is the gamblin’ playlist, available now. A brief video shows players buying in for 1,500 VC per round, winner take all. Virtual Currency is awarded freely throughout the gameplay of PGA Tour 2K21, although it can be bought for real money — and 1,100 VC is $9.99, making this a match for genuine stakes. But even players who lose will make some currency back with their gameplay.

High Rollers and the other new game type, Quick Match, are both three-hole rounds, with their holes drawn at random from the courses in PGA Tour 2K21’s lineup. Quick Match is for two to four players, stroke play format. High Rollers is 1v1 only. Skins game rules are kind of like match play, except there’s a jackpot rollover in case the two players tie a hole.
HB Studios also announced some new branded bling for MyPlayer avatars. Ralph Lauren is supplying a shirt and some skorts, and adidas is throwing in a pair of shoes and a new “Codechaos” polo shirt design, which will debut in this game before golfers can buy it in the real world.
PGA Tour 2K21 launched Aug. 21 on Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. I’ve greatly enjoyed my time in this game, finding it approachable and inclusive enough for players raised on other console golf games, with more demanding options available for HB Studios’ longtime audience from The Golf Club series.
