There is some exciting virtual reality (VR) titles on their way in 2022, from multiplayer shooters to puzzle adventures. To mark the start of the new year indie developer GIB Games has released a brand new trailer for its upcoming murder mystery project The Callisto, due to arrive this Spring.
Originally premiering at the Game Developer Expo in Columbus, OH during 2021, The Callisto is based around the lore of Cold Start, a 2017 tabletop RPG; whilst drawing inspiration from titles such as Firewatch and The Return of the Obra Dinn. A futuristic puzzler where you play a detective assigned to investigate a politically-motivated triple homicide at The Callisto, a luxury hotel on Jupiter’s second-largest moon.
The hotel is completely empty, giving you free rein to explore and search for clues. Whilst gathering crucial evidence you’ll be able to remotely interview witnesses, uncovering between guests and staff as well as The Callisto’s seedy history. There will be plenty of interactive gameplay by the looks of things, climbing ladders to get to new areas, combination keypads and other pieces of tech, all to be expected from an immersive escape room in space.
All of this is wrapped in some very nice, glossy looking visuals. GIB Games has ensured its futuristic hotel has the sort of high-end aesthetic you’d expect from this type of installation.
As part of the trailer reveal, GIB Games has also mentioned several actors lending their voices to The Callisto, one of whom happens to be veteran voice actor behind the voice of Duke Nukem, Jon St. John. Also on the roster are John McPhee and Jason Kearney as the game’s protagonist duo.
Currently slated to launch via Steam this Spring, The Callisto will support Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index headsets. Check out the new trailer below, and for further updates keep reading VRFocus.
