One of Take-Two's quarterly financial reports made its way to the public today, revealing a bunch on interesting numbers regarding some of Rockstar's most popular titles. We also found out the nominations for the Oscars, and that Platinum Games wants Phil Spencer and Xbox to help bring back Scalebound. More details below.

The GTA Remaster Has Somehow Become A Success

We'll get all the Rockstar numbers out of the way first, including the news that the highly controversial GTA remaster has exceeded commercial expectations despite a very rocky launch. Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick doesn't reveal any specific numbers, but the title has allegedly sold around 10 million copies. It just goes to show how massive a series like GTA is when a game as buggy as this one can still amass such massive sales numbers.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Cracks The Top Ten Best-Selling Games Of All Time

Rockstar's quarterly financial report has also revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has joined GTA V as one of the top ten best-selling games of all time. Having now sold a whopping 43 million copies, Red Dead Redemption 2 has taken tenth spot in the list, bumping Nintendo's version Tetris down to eleventh. With Wii Fit just a million copies ahead of it, it's possible that Red Dead Redemption 2 could be a little higher in the list come of the end of 2022.

PlatinumGames Asks Xbox Head Phil Spencer To Relaunch Scalebound Development

Moving away from Rockstar, we have some news about Scalebound, an Xbox funded title that was being developed by Bayonetta and Nier Automata developer PlatinumGames before it was unfortunately canceled in 2017. In an interview with IGN Japan, Scalebound director Hideki Kamiya appealed to Phil Spencer saying "Let’s do it, Phil!", pleading with the Xbox head to relaunch development. Kamiya has tried multiple times to get Scalebound development relaunched, but only time will tell if Spencer actually reaches out this time.

Ninja Theory Says Hellblade 2 Will Make The Original "Look Like An Indie Game"

From one Xbox property to another, development on Hellblade 2 seems to be going smoothly with Ninja Theory founder Tameem Antoniades claiming that the game's much larger scale will make the first Hellblade game "look like an indie game." Hellblade 2's latest gameplay trailer was mightily impressive, blending cutscenes with gameplay seamlessly, although hinting that your title is superior to indie games because it's "scale is bigger" isn't the greatest look.

The 94th Annual Oscars Nominations Have Been Announced

Finally, the nominations for this year's Oscars ceremony dropped today, bringing forth a wave of film-based anger/delight depending on whether your favorite has been snubbed or not. The films up for Best Picture include Netflix's Don't Look Up as well as Dune, Belfast, Coda, Drive My Car, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog, and West Side Story. Spider-Man: No Way Home has unfortunately missed out, but it has been nominated for Best Visual Effects. A full list of the nominations can be found here.
