The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter has finally ended at a staggering $2.2 million in funding. This is especially impressive for a game that tanked on the Nintendo Wii U in 2013, as it will finally be exposed to a much bigger audience and be given the chance it deserves.
PlatinumGames added a lot of rewards and stretch goals throughout the Kickstarter for The Wonderful 101: Remastered. Now that the Kickstarter has ended, we can finally break down all of the promises that were made throughout the campaign.

PC, PlayStation 4, & Nintendo Switch Ports
The intention of The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter was to fund the three ports of the game to modern systems. These goals were quickly met, with the Nintendo Switch port funded at 50k, the Steam port was funded at 250k, and the PlayStation 4 port was funded at 500k. These are the only ports confirmed for the moment, as the developers have said the game won’t be coming to Xbox One.
The first true stretch goal was Time Attack Mode, which was hit at 1 million dollars of funding. All that has been revealed about this mode so far is that it’s intended for speedrunners, but it’s easy to imagine that it will just be timed segments of the main game.
The Remix Soundtrack stretch goal was hit at 1.75 million dollars of funding and this might be the most mysterious one of all. All that has been revealed about the Remix Soundtrack is that it will involve a “secret special guest.” There was another stretch goal for orchestral recordings of some of the original songs in the game, but this wasn’t reached.
Luka’s Two Missions
Luka Alan Smithee is a major character in The Wonderful 101. He’s a kid who eventually joins the Wonderful Ones under the alias of Wonder-Goggles. Luka will become the main character in a 2D side-scrolling adventure/platform game, with a gameplay style that will be completely different from The Wonderful 101: Remastered, as Luka will have to fight enemies on his own. The “Luka’s First Mission” stretch goal was hit at 1.5 million dollars worth of funding.
The last stretch goal that was hit in The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter was for “Luka’s Second Mission,” which was hit at 2 million dollars worth of funding. All we know about this mode so far is that it will star Luka again. It will most likely use the same 2D style as the First Mission game.
The Kickstarter page confirmed that the stretch goals will be released as free DLC to all backers after the game has been released, though exact release dates for either mission have yet to be revealed.
The Rewards
A lot of the Kickstarter rewards for The Wonderful 101: Remastered are exactly what you would expect. Along with digital/physical versions of the game, there is a mixture of cheap merch rewards (like stickers and t-shirts), and a few extravagant ones, like parts of Wonder Red’s costume.
The Wonderful 101: Remastered rewards include a copy of the game (digital or physical), a 101 keychain, a set of vinyl stickers, a CENTINELS identification card, a Wonder-Pendant, a Wonderful 101 t-shirt, a Wonderful 101 comic (digital or physical), an acrylic diorama of the Wonderful Ones, an artbook, the soundtrack (in abridged, full, and digital forms), a vinyl record of songs from the soundtrack, Kenshi (rubber) figures of the team, custom Joy-Cons/Dualshock 4 controllers, a name in the artbook, a limited edition platinum trophy, a Wonder-Mask, a Wonder-Red jacket, a framed button display, and a twelve-inch Wonder Red figure.
The most high-profile Kickstarter reward was being blocked by director Hideki Kamiya on Twitter, which is an optional thing that backers could claim. The most expensive reward is a full tour of the PlatinumGames studio, with the caveat that the backer is expected to pay for their own travel and board during the trip and they will be restricted from taking photos in certain parts of the building.
The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter has proven that fans are willing to support PlatinumGames’ attempt at moving into self-publishing its games. The fact that a dead franchise like The Wonderful 101 can come back and make millions of dollars from fans could not only spell big things for other dead Platinum projects (hello Scalebound), but it could inspire other companies to take a similar leap and help other franchises have a second chance of life on modern systems.
The Wonderful 101: Remastered will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on May 19 in North America and May 22 in Europe.
