Just because we’re in the shortest month of the year doesn’t mean that the indie game scene is lacking in solid titles to choose from. Quite the contrary. In fact, the first title on this week’s list launched on Sunday, kicking off an impressive week for indie game releases with plenty to keep you busy.
Here are our picks for this week in indie games, February 14-20.
Half Past Fate: Romantic Distancing – February 14 (PC, Switch)
We’re a few days past Valentine’s Day, but you can still feel the love in Half Past Fate: Romantic Distancing – from developer Serenity Forge. Romantic Distancing is a follow-up mini-sode to the original game that was released last year, telling the story of Stephen and Robin as they try to keep their blossoming relationship alive during a global lockdown. Half Past Fate: Romantic Distancing is available now on Steam and Nintendo Switch.
Gem Wizards Tactics – February 16 (PC)
Gem Wizards Tactics – from developer Keith Burgun Games – is a turn-based strategy game that features randomly generated maps and quirky, asymmetrical factions. Your goal is to ultimately knock the other factions off of the hexagonal map using unique strategies. Gem Wizards Tactics is available now on Steam.
Shattered – Tale of the Forgotten King – February 17 (PC)
Shattered – Tale of the Forgotten King is a dark action RPG that features skill-based combat and innovative open-world platforming as you explore the dark world of Hypnos – a world that has been 10 years in the making by developer Redlock Studio. As you wander, your character will meet other personalities, take on monstrous enemies, and evolve their weapons and skills. Shattered – Tale of the Forgotten King will be available on Steam on February 17.
Speed Limit – February 17 (PC, PS4, XB1, Switch)
Just when you think you know what kind of game Speed Limit is, it changes completely, from its gameplay to its genre. Touted as “Hard. Fast. Addictive”, developer Gamechuck draws inspiration from different elements of the golden arcade era to create an incredibly unique and fast-paced pixelated adventure. Speed Limit will launch on PC via Steam, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on February 17.
Lemon Cake – February 18 (PC)
If you’ve ever wanted to run your own farm-to-table bakery and think you have what it takes to be successful, Lemon Cake – from sole-developer Éloïse Laroche – is just what you need. In Lemon Cake, you’ll look to take a run-down bakery and overgrown garden and restore it to its former glory as you serve your customers. Lemon Cake releases on Steam on February 18.
The Shore – February 19 (PC)
The Shore – from sole-developer Ares Dragonis – puts players in the shoes of a father who has lost his daughter, searching for her through a nightmarish world based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft. Players will encounter overwhelming odds as they explore the atmospheric shoreline, which looks terrifying enough from the trailer alone. The Shore hits Steam on February 19.
Gravity Heroes – February 19 (PC)
Gravity always seems to pull me down… but that’s the point in Gravity Heroes from developer Studica Solution. Play as one of four characters (and up to four players in the game’s multiplayer mode) as you use gravity to get an upper hand against the enemies you encounter in this pixelated platform shooter. A demo is currently available on Steam, with the full release coming February 19.
Voyage – February 19 (PC)
Voyage – from developer Venturous – is a cinematic side-scrolling adventure that focuses on shared exploration and cooperation. The game offers up solo and co-op modes as players make their way through gorgeous hand-painted environments on a non-violent adventure. Voyage launches on Steam on February 19.
Horatama – February 19 (PC)
Remember Tamagotchis? Horatama is just like that, featuring virtual pets that players can take care of. And you’d better do just that. If your digital critter becomes too unhappy, you’ll have to deal with the evil ramifications when it tears a hole in reality and becomes a real (and really terrible) pet. Tamagotchis had us completely consumed in the mid-90s. Horatamas, on the other hand, might literally be doing just that in 2021. Horatama brings its digital critter horror to Steam on February 19.
A few other indie games to check out includes a handful of titles that are in Early Access, or have already been released and are making their debut on other platforms:
- Good Night, Knight (Early Access): Available now on Steam
- TasteMaker: Restaurant Simulator (Early Access): Available on February 18 on Steam
- Anodyne 2: Return to Dust (Port) – Available on February 18 on Nintendo Switch
- Thomas Was Alone (Port) – Available on February 19 on Nintendo Switch
- Effiie (Port) – Releasing February 19 on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
