Activision Blizzard announced that the company will host Overwatch League (OWL) three live competitions in the Chinese cities Hangzhou, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.
Between June 4-6, the competition called the “June Championship” will be hosted in Hangzhou Spark’s home venue; July 9-11, the “Summer Challenge” will be hosted in Shanghai Dragons’ home venue; and August 7-8, the “Countdown Cup” will be hosted in Guangzhou Charge’s home venue.
Apart from the competitions to be held at the Chinese OWL teams’ home venues, Chengdu Hunters and Los Angeles Valiant will also join and compete in live events. In addition, New York Excelsior, Philadelphia Fusion, and Seoul Dynasty, will participate in the competition online.
In addition, Activision Blizzard pointed out that the reason behind hosting live events in China is because of the country’s successful management of the COVID-19 pandemic. The safety of players, fans, and staff will still be the highest priority, according to Activision Blizzard.
