The LA Guerrillas Home Series got off to a great start for OpTic Chicago, who swept the Seattle Surge in dominating fashion, 3-0. OpTic were swept in back-to-back matches last weekend, making this an important win.
Seattle, on the other hand, came into the match seeming pretty confident about their season’s turnaround. Thanks to some key performances, it looked like the Surge might make a comeback, but they simply didn’t have enough of a hot streak to take down a desperate OpTic Chicago.
OpTic sweeps Seattle at the LA Guerrillas Home Series
Coming into this series, there was an uneasy expectation that Chicago would win. Of course, given last weekend’s performances, no one quite knew what to expect from the roster. They dropped within the power rankings and standings, and looked like a team on the verge of needing a change.
However, in classic OpTic fashion, they turned the ship around when they needed to by easily defeating the streaking Surge. Brandon “Dashy” Otell returned to form after turning in the worst stats of anyone on the roster last weekend.
The AR player put up a 1.41 K/D in the series, showing out in both Hardpoint and Control. Matt “FormaL” Piper finished with a 1.28 K/D, closely following Dashy’s performance. The assault rifles for OpTic clearly led the way for Chicago, allowing for the SMGs to make life much harder on Seattle.
In a stat that no one saw coming, Sam “Octane” Larew led the way for the Surge. No other player finished with a respectable line, which has been the common thread throughout Seattle’s season. While the roster certainly has enjoyed some success during Stage 2, it’s clear that Octane can’t carry them every single match.
Conversely, OpTic Chicago is apparently back on the right track, but could be thrown off again when they go up against the Dallas Empire on Sunday, April 4.
