Riot Games Launches VALORANT Ignition Series to Jumpstart Ecosystem

Riot Games announced that it has created the “Ignition Series,” a multi-organizational VALORANT event that will see individual tournaments run all over the world. More than 20 esports organizations will create various tournament formats for the competitive 5v5 class-based shooter.

The Ignition Series begins June 19 with the European G2 Esports Invitational, presented by Red Bull and the RAGE VALORANT JAPAN Invitational. There will be more Ignition Series events produced in North America, Brazil, Latin America, Korea, Japan, South East Asia, Oceania, Europe, Russia, Turkey, and the Middle East. Riot will release more details on upcoming events in the coming days.

Each organizer will be allowed to operate their own Ignition Series tournament, with its own variations including competitive open qualifiers, show matches, and invitationals with players of its choosing. This could mean that established personalities, aspiring amateurs, or anybody an organization chooses can be invited to compete.

Riot Games is looking to jumpstart the VALORANT ecosystem in order to allow regions to “develop a competitive legacy.” According to the release, the Ignition Series will “spotlight a select amount of tournaments” in order to help discover talented players and “build global recognition.”

Additionally, Riot Games will support Ignition Series events in multiple ways by using several publishing channels and creating a dedicated landing page with an updated schedule.

Event organizers will also be able to secure and use their own sponsors.

Previously, Riot laid out its plans and agenda for the VALORANT esports ecosystem in which the company stated it wanted to see an open ecosystem from which to gather data to create a sustainable scene. This announcement falls in line with those plans.
