Rocket League Season 2 kicks off with a new customization type

It’s been three months since Rocket League went free-to-play and its subsequent season overhaul. That means it’s time for Season 2 to begin, and Psyonix is doing so with a bunch of cool new stuff. A new map, a new customization option with Player Anthems and, of course, the Rocket Pass.

Rocket League receives Player Anthems as a new customization

Player Anthems are Rocket League’s newest customization. These anthems can be chosen from the game’s ever-growing soundtrack and will play when the player scores a goal. But that’s not just it, as some of the upcoming new Rocket pass items will pulse to the music that plays in the menu or in the arena. Pysonix promises more information to be dropped about Player Anthems tomorrow, so keep your eyes peeled.

Speaking of the Rocket Pass, a new one will begin on December 9 as well. Of course, in the same EDM style as the new map. Or is it the other way around? Either way, we could have seen this coming after the unexpected Buffy-Sugo goal explosion that was randomly added to Rocket League.

The new car that comes with the Rocket Pass, the R3MX, uses the Hybrid hitbox like the Nissan Skyline and the Jäger, among others. A welcome change after so many Octane and Dominus hitbox cars. There will be a bunch of new items, of course, most of which will be available in the premium version of the Rocket Pass. For a preview of some of the items, check out the new trailer and the official Rocket Pass website. Strangely, the new car is nowhere to be seen in the trailer except for the thumbnail and end screen.

Rocket Labs is also making a return as a periodic limited-time-mode throughout Rocket League Season 2. This playlist features strange mutators or even completely wonky maps like an arena with four goals, a circular map, or a field with massive pillars in the middle.

Psyonix also notes that they will bring improvements to the esports shop, more tournament rewards, among other things. Now with so many neon-style items, we can only hope that one day we’ll get under-car neon lights added to the Rocket League. It’d have been perfect for this update. Season 2 begins on December 9, with the update dropping a day before. This also brings the optimization to the Xbox Series X and S.
