Team BDS has secured back-to-back major wins by defeating Team Vitality in the grand final of the Rocket League Championship Series Season X (RLCSX) Winter Major.
After already taking home the victory in the fall major, Team BDS has cemented their position at the top by also winning the winter major. They secured double the amount of points toward the world championship and $36,000, bringing their total earnings in prize money to $214,200 this season alone.
Team BDS reigns in Europe
Team BDS has repeatedly shown their dominance since the beginning of the season by winning four out of six regional events and now the second consecutive major. But Team BDS’s Alex “Extra” Paoli remained humble in the post-match interview.
“We need to see another split to see if we are top one, top two, top three, or top four. But [other teams] are definitely catching up,” Paoli said. “We need to win the next major.”
And while Team BDS may look supreme from the numbers alone, Extra’s words ring true. Team Vitality came close to defeating Team BDS twice in this major alone, both games requiring a final game seven with a single goal difference. Regardless, Team BDS did what the likes of Vitality, Dignitas and Galaxy Racer could not, and solidified their spot at the top.
The spring split will soon begin with another three regional events and a major to close it off before the world championships later this year. There are no confirmed dates for when the spring split is set to begin, but the transfer window ends on Mar. 5 for Europe. The format and any other details of the spring split have also yet to be announced but are expected to be revealed soon.
Next week, it is up to the North American teams to bring it to the table in order to take home the top points and prize money. Similar to EU’s Team BDS, Team Envy is currently sitting on top with a 1000-plus point lead, but with 802 points for the first-place finisher, the North American RLCSX Winter Major is the perfect opportunity to start gaining on the leaders.
