Cool Injustice 3 Fan Art Has Fans Hoping For Sequel Announcement

There are never enough superhero games for some of us, and the popular Injustice fighting game franchise hasn’t had a follow-up since 2017’s Injustice 2. Now, that might be set to change. Popular Twitter artist BossLogic uploaded an image that seems to suggest the existence of an Injustice 3, although at this point it appears to be more of wishful thinking than an actual announcement of any sort.

As noted by several observers, the clock in the background of the mock-up is likely a thinly-veiled reference to the Watchmen sequel Doomsday Clock–which was written by Geoff Johns, not original writer Alan Moore–which could indicate the inclusion of Watchmen characters in an Injustice sequel. While it seems a bit far-fetched, such crossovers have become increasingly common in NetherRealm games, since Injustice 2 featured disparate characters like Hellboy and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

It’s certainly possible that this mock-up is just a bit of wishful thinking on BossLogic’s part. However, the timing is suspicious, as DC’s upcoming Fandome event on August 22 will reveal new details about other upcoming superhero games, such as the newly-confirmed Suicide Squad game in development at Rocksteady. A previous snippet of dialogue from a Joker vs. Joker mirror match also seemed to imply that Injustice 3 is on the way. Though director Ed Boon denied it, given NetherRealm’s penchant for secrets and hints, that seems highly unlikely.

Given that Netherrealm has just shipped the Aftermath DLC for Mortal Kombat 11, it would seem likely they’re about to embark on a new project, and an Injustice 3 would certainly make sense. It would certainly be a next-gen game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. We’ll likely have to wait until August 22 for any confirmation, however.
