The next Battlefield will see a major difference between next gen and current gen versions, thanks to a sizeable ‘technology difference’.
The next few weeks are, hopefully, going to see a huge wave of new games announced, both those that have been rumoured for a long while and brand-new titles never previously guessed at.
But one game that probably won’t be featured is Battlefield 6, since it’s not due out until late next year. Although that hasn’t stopped the rumours anyway.
You don’t need any insider info to assume that the new game will be set in the modern day, as that seems the obvious setting after two games set during the two World Wars, but that’s what leaker Tom Henderson is claiming anyway.
Whether that means that whole modes will be missing from the current gen versions or just a graphical downgrade is unknown, but apparently only a ‘small amount’ of people are working on that version.
Normally, cross-gen versions of the same game are more or less the same, until franchises go next gen a year or two after the new consoles’ launch, but this implies a more significant power difference between the two sets of consoles – perhaps as a result of the new console’s SSD.
Henderson has proven accurate in the past, especially about last year’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, and his Twitter comments have been backed up by VenturBeat journalist Jeff Grubb on forum ResetEra.
It is still possible Battlefield 6 could be unveiled this month or next, possibly at the EA Play event on 18 June, but more likely we’ll only get official confirmation of what’s going on with it late this year at the earliest.
