Between recent datamining and a new interview with the narrative director, Call Of Duty: Warzone seems to have some major changes on the way.
Only a few days ago, dataminers went into the latest update for Call Of Duty: Warzone and found hints of more game modes that seem to be planned for the battle royale mode.
However, further inspection has revealed that we could be seeing a new map be included as part of the Season 4 update, which will likely start either towards the end of May or at the beginning of June.
The ModernWarzone subreddit has a video that was reportedly found within the game’s files and it shows an overview of Verdansk, the setting for Warzone, gradually being covered in red dots, before panning over to Urzikstan, one of the locations in Modern Warfare.
Apparently, the video could be the same one used in the Special Ops campaign for Modern Warfare, where the red dots are meant to denote terrorist hits, but then that begs the question as to why it was included in the files labelled Season 4.
There is obviously no official word on this, but Infinity Ward’s narrative director Taylor Kurosaki has stated that we can expect some sort of changes to Warzone’s map in the near future.
In an interview with GamerGen, he mentioned how players had already discovered a ‘whole other part of Verdansk they haven’t seen yet’ and that there is ‘more than meets the eye.’
‘Season 4 will unravel some of those mysteries and unlock some of them for our players. As the battle in Verdansk wages on, things will grow more desperate. There are going to be more and more fighters sent in to turn the tide and we’re very excited to get our players to see and join alongside these new great warriors as they continue to fight.’
As of now, it’s unclear whether players will able to enjoy two separate maps, additions to the current one, or if the new one will replace Verdansk completely.
Recently, the game has been rolling back on decisions after negative feedback from fans, like when Trios was added back in a couple of days after being removed.
If Verdansk is nuked and replaced and fans voice their complaints once more, it might be harder to justify bringing the original map back since, in-universe, it’d just be a giant crater.
Call Of Duty: Warzone is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
