The Proving Grounds strike is finally available this week in Destiny 2. Guardians will infiltrate the massive Cabal fortress on Nessus to eliminate most of Caiatl’s War Council, ending the “Challenger’s Proving” questline tied to this season.
Of course, a new batch of Seasonal Challenge are available as well. Challenges tied to the new strike, final story quest, and earning Valor ranks in the Crucible are what you can expect. Unlike the Gambit weekly from two weeks ago, earning Valor ranks should be much less tedious. Here are all of week seven’s Seasonal Challenges in Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen.
What Are Seasonal Challenges?
Most of your experience and Bright Dust earnings will come from Seasonal Challenges, unique Triumphs that are tied to a given season. Each week, Bungie will release a set number of challenges that players can complete for rewards. Seasonal Challenges do not expire until the season ends, meaning you can complete the first week’s set of challenges on week ten if you wanted.
Where Can I View Seasonal Challenges?
Head to either your Season 13 or Quest tab. These tabs are in the menu as your Director. In either menu, select the icon that states Seasonal Challenges. Here, you can view all Seasonal Challenges currently available and claim any challenges you’ve completed.
What’s A Retroactive Challenge?
A few challenges have requirements that are tracked before the challenge goes live. For example, players that own Salvager’s Salvo’s Gambit ornament will be able to claim this week’s Gambit Salvager’s Salvo Seasonal Challenge since they already own the ornament. Challenges that behave this way are noted as retroactive challenges in our guide.
Contender’s Ascent VII
Contender’s Ascent VII: Report to the War Table in the H.E.L.M. and complete the “Challenger’s Proving VII” quest. Then defeat Cabal with a Submachine Gun.
Rewards
- XP
- Extraordinary Rendition – Submachine Gun
- Empress – Lore
- War Table Reputation (Large)
Travel to the H.E.L.M. to pick up the seventh and final story quest for Season of the Chosen. Once you’ve completed it, defeat Cabal anywhere on the system with SMGs. You’ll need 100 kills to complete this challenge. Battlegrounds contain a large number of Cabal for you to mow down. The Arms Dealer strike and the new Proving Ground strike are good places to farm Cabal kills.
Proving Grounds Trifecta
Proving Grounds Trifecta: Complete the following in the Proving Grounds strike: finish the mission, defeat combatants, and deposit a Power Core in the undercarriage of the Land Tank.
Rewards
- Double XP
- War Table Reputation (Large)
Since the Proving Grounds strike released this week, it should be no surprise that this Seasonal Challenge involves playing Proving Grounds multiple times. You’ll need to do the following:
- Deposit 2 Power Cores
- Defeat 150 Combatants
- Complete the strike 3 times
All three of those objectives are rather straightforward. Proving Grounds has a degree of enemy density on par with The Devils’ Lair and Fallen S.A.B.E.R. strikes, making it easy to reach 150 combatant eliminations in three runs. The power cores are found halfway through the strike when you’re in the undercarriage. Grab the orbs and deposit them yourself. Be wary of flying debris and Cabal as you’re escorting an orb, as both things can easily kill you.
Diplomacy Or Death
Diplomacy or Death: Listen to intercepted transmissions at the radio kiosk in the H.E.L.M.
Rewards
- XP
This challenge’s objective is retroactive.
You must listen to five intercepted transmissions to complete Diplomacy or Death. Every transmission can be found at the H.E.L.M. When you spawn in, run towards the radio kiosk to your left. The kiosk is to the right of the postmaster terminal. You can interact with the kiosk to hear one transmission per week.
One Against Many
One Against Many: Calibrate weapons by rapidly defeating 3 or more combatants.
Rewards
- Double XP
- 150 Bright Dust
One Against Many requires ten triple kills to complete. Killing three enemies in a short timeframe is easiest with a Heavy weapon. The Thrall hallway in the Shattered Throne dungeon and the Last Wish raid’s Shuro Chi encounter have hundreds of enemies you can kill. Battleground matches also supply plenty of enemies. Use Riskrunner, Trinity Ghoul, Machine Guns, or Grenade Launchers to get this challenge done quickly.
Gambit Salvager’s Salvo
Gambit Salvager’s Salvo: Acquire the Toxicology ornament for the Salvager’s Salvo Grenade Launcher.
Rewards
- Double XP
- 150 Bright Dust
This challenge’s objective is retroactive.
Toxicology is the Gambit ornament for Salvager’s Salvo, this season’s Ritual weapon. Acquiring it will require you to complete a short quest from the Drifter. It asks for the following:
- Land 100 Grenade Launcher final blows. Multikills grant bonus progress.
- Bank 350 Motes.
Fighting Lion is a solid pick for completing the first objective, dishing out the damage of a Special Grenade Launcher while only using Primary ammo. Banking 350 Motes sounds extreme, but any player that focuses on collecting Motes can get around 30-50 a game. You’ll likely get the Grenade Launcher part done first, so feel free to swap to a more comfortable loadout for the Mote objective.
If you haven’t earned the Grenade Launcher and its ornaments yet, check out our Salvager’s Salvo guide.
Beyond Legendary
Beyond Legendary: Earn Valor ranks.
Rewards
- Quadruple XP
- 300 Bright Dust
Don’t panic! Earning Valor ranks is significantly easier than earning Gambit ranks. Subdivision rank-ups do not count, similar to the Gambit Seasonal Challenge in week five, although this isn’t much of a problem since Valor is so plentiful. Expect Crucible to become a little bit sweatier this week due to the challenge. Thankfully, this week has triple Valor earnings, so you should be able to get this challenge done rather quickly.
By far the fastest way of earning Valor is to start and maintain a Win Streak. A five Win Streak will nearly double your Valor earnings each game, so consider getting a fireteam together before grinding out the Crucible playlist. You can speed up your Valor earnings further by completing daily bounties from Shaxx, each granting 15 Valor. He sells four bounties each day, allowing you to earn 60 Valor per character per day. Stick to your preferred Valor playlist—Mayhem is up for players who can’t stand Destiny 2 PvP—aim to win every match, and remember to take breaks if you start getting tilted. Remember, you have the rest of the season to complete this challenge.
