During Sony’s PlayStation 5 reveal event, Rockstar Games announced that an “expanded and enhanced” version of Grand Theft Auto 5 will be released on the next-gen console.
During the event — called “The Future of Gaming” — Rockstar said that Grand Theft Auto Online will be free when it comes to the next-gen console. It’s not clear, exactly, what sort of “expanded and enhanced” content the PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 will include — but it seems notable that Sony wanted to lead with the information.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the more popular games of all time, with more than 150 million units sold as of May. In May, Rockstar and Epic Games offered the six-and-a-half year old game for free for a week, an offer that was so popular it broke the Epic Games Store, where it was being offered, for hours.
Sony’s PlayStation 5 is slated for a holiday 2020 release date.
