First Trailer For Amazon’s Lord Of The Rings Set To Drop During Super Bowl

Amazon's Lord Of The Rings prequel, The Rings Of Power, will air its first true trailer sometime during Super Bowl Sunday. That's according to a press release from Amazon and according to a tweet that's written in Elvish.

We recently got to see the show's title card, but it revealed little other than its full title. Well, there was also Welsh actress Morfydd Clark recounting the Rhyme of the Rings, but that wasn't anything we hadn't already heard before.

Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power is set thousands of years before The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings during what's called The Second Age. During this time, The Dark Lord Sauron created the Rings of Power and gave them to men and dwarves leading to general ruin and calamity.

“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared reemergence of evil to Middle-earth," writes Amazon in the show's description. "From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”

The show was mostly produced in New Zealand before finishing filming in the UK. It's also the most expensive television series ever produced at a whopping $465 million for a single season. With that kind of price tag, what's a few million more for ad space during the Super Bowl?

Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power starts airing on September 2 only on Amazon Prime with new episodes arriving every week thereafter.
