The promise of a free copy of GTA 5 has brought the Epic Games Store to its knees, with no sign of it returning anytime soon.
You’d think at this point, after selling over 120 million copies, there was no one left in the world that wanted to play GTA 5 but did not already have a copy. But apparently that’s not the case.
Epic Games was due to start a new ‘Mega Sale’ today, which has a number of big name games at up to 50% off and grants you a £10 coupon every time you spend over £13.99.
To promote the sale there’ll also be a series of free games given away, starting with Grand Theft Auto 5. Or at least that was the idea before the site fell down.
Give the tweet above we assume some people have been able to get into the site, to some degree, but we haven’t seen anything other than a 500 error message since 4pm.
With the Epic Games launcher also having problems that means you won’t be able to play any games via it either, including Fortnite.
All of this only affects PC games, but it’s likely if the problem goes on for much longer the free offer will be extended beyond its intended end date of Thursday, 21 May.
