GAME has e-mailed PlayStation fans that managed to get a PS5 pre-order in about their delivery, initially warning them that they might not receive the package on day one. An e-mail sent by GAME on November 18 – the day before the PS5’s UK launch – explained that for “reasons beyond” their control their delivery partner YODEL said “not all orders due to be delivered by them will be delivered on release day”. The e-mail from GAME went on to explain that “this is due to capacity issues” in the YODEL delivery network, and may mean tracking information for inbound PS5 consoles may not be listed until Friday.
The e-mail was highlighted by TechRadar’s deputy editor John McCann who tweeted: “To the surprise of literally no one, @YodelOnline won’t be delivering all their allocated #PS5 pre-orders on release day – despite us knowing about the release date for months.”
GAME apologised for “any disappointment this may cause”, but in a further e-mail that was highlighted by McCann went onto say “the vast majority” of PS5 pre-orders will still be delivered on release day.
The GAME e-mail said: “Thank you for ordering a PlayStation 5 with GAME. We wanted to follow up our previous communication to you around YODEL deliveries to confirm the vast majority of orders will be delivered tomorrow with any outstanding orders being delivered on Friday.”
Express.co.uk has contacted GAME for comment.
In other GAME news, PlayStation fans that were trying to access the retailer’s website today to purchase a PS5 have experienced issues – with slow loading times and crashes.
One Twitter user posted: “Great. Website crashes. First GAME, then ARGOS, then CURRYS PC WORLD and now AMAZON. I just want to order the PS5 is that too much to ask”.
Another wrote: “So I get in the queue to @GAMEdigital for over 2 hours trying to buy the PS5 and then when I finally get on the website it crashes”.
One added: “Come off of nights hoping to get a PS5 on the new stock release… managed to actually get on the Game website this morning then at bang on 9am it crashes and haven’t got on since.”
And another tweeted: “@GAMEdigital your website is down”.
GAME had previously said they were going to make more PS5 stock available to buy at 9am UK today, which is the PS5 launch date for gamers in Blighty and Europe.
However, they have since revealed that PS5 stock will be going live “later today”.
The @GAMEDigital Twitter posted: “PS5 Update. Our 9am go live for the PS5 is on hold.
“We’re really sorry and we are hoping that we will go live later today.
“We will provide an update on our page when we’re back up and running!”
Other websites have also experienced issues, with the John Lewis website crashing and Currys PC World delaying their PS5 restock.
PS5 stock was initially meant to go live at 9am on the Currys PC World website. But the retailer had to delay this rollout, posting on Twitter: “Important Announcement.
“Our 9am go live for the PS5 is unfortunately on hold. We’re really sorry as we know a lot of you are really excited to get your hands on the PS5, we are hoping that it will go live later today.
“Keep your eyes peeled on our page for more updates”.
A few hours later on Twitter Currys PC World went onto say: “PS5 Update. There will be no PS5s available to buy today.
“We know that this is disappointing news, and we are working super hard to get more stock.
“Please check our social channels for further updates on availability”.
