GTA 6 news: Release date rumour latest and why GTA 6 is not coming out on PS4 and Xbox

Reports have been flying around the Grand Theft Auto franchise of late regarding when GTA 6 is coming out. There have been suggestions that Rockstar Games will release its next game during 2021, while others believe it will be a longer wait. And now a new unverified report provides a reason why the new Grand Theft Auto project has changed.

And if it proves true, it would mean that GTA 6 will almost certainly not feature on the PS4 or Xbox One consoles. It should be noted that the following leak was shared online and cannot be verified at this point.

This means that the information should be taken with a pinch of salt until Rockstar Games confirm its own plans.

The good news is the post comes with other information regarding current titles that should be confirmed in the coming weeks. Meaning we can find out pretty quickly what can, or cannot, be believed.

This includes the news that the next GTA Online Update is going to be a Cops and Crooks Game Mode. This is allegedly going to be released at some point in June or July and will be the game’s next major multiplayer expansion.

So if this latest update does get announced in the coming weeks by Rockstar, it will help back up what has been said about GTA 6.

According to this new online leak, the GTA 6 release date has changed due to feedback provided during the release of Red Dead Redemption 2.

The game had reached a certain point in development, allegedly over 50% had been finished, but further work was needed to help re-tweak the project.

This included changes being made to missions and the story, both of which have undergone revamps to make them more open.

According to the leak, the GTA 6 release date had been set for between October 2021 and February 2022.

However, it is now unclear how things will go due to the current world situation and the fact that this was always seen as an internal release date target, which can always be changed.

For now, this remains just another rumour and there has been plenty of talk regarding the next Grand Theft Auto game.

One of the final articles by Jason Schreier for Kotaku provided some much-needed clarity regarding the situation surrounding Grand Theft Auto.

in a post online, about how Rockstar’s culture has changed since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, Schreier said GTA 6 is the next title Rockstar are working on.

Which is great news for GTA fans as we’re currently in the midst of the longest wait ever for a new Grand Theft Auto game – over six and a half years and counting.

Unfortunately, Schreier also dropped the news that GTA 6 was in the early stages of development.

Given Schreier’s track record of reliability, Rockstar Games fans took this as all-but confirmation that GTA 6 was a while off.

Schreier followed this up with comments on Twitter, backing up his claims that the game was still in the early stages of development by adding: “Sorry dude, it is. Not what fans want to hear but that game is years away.”

This would make a release on current gen consoles unviable and means that the next Grand Theft Auto game will almost certainly be on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
