The new Hitman game will not be coming to Steam anytime soon, but the first Hitman reboot will be free for a week on Epic Games Store.
Hitman 3 is set to become the biggest Epic Games Store exclusive in quite a while, as IO Interactive announce that the game will not be coming to Steam when it’s released in January 2021.
As usual, this won’t affect the console versions, but the move is understandable given this will be the first time that IO is self-publishing and a partnership with Epic no doubt brought with it a significant cash injection.
At the same time, the 2016 reboot of the series will be free to download and keep from Thursday, 27 August until 3 September.
The third game will complete the reboot trilogy, although given IO’s new freedom to do whatever it wants with the franchise it’s unlikely to be the last we’ll hear of Mr 47.
As usual, Hitman 3 will take place in various locations around the world, with the new trailer above showing off the Thornbridge Manor map set in Dartmoor.
In the past PC owners have gotten extremely angry about Epic Games Store exclusives, to the point where they’ve issued death threats against such innocuous targets as Ooblets developer Glumberland.
Whether they’ve calmed down in the meantime or they’ve just not had any new targets to rail against is unclear, but IO Interactive will be the first to find out…
