There are plenty of activities to jump into in Horizon Forbidden West, and one of them is the all-new Salvage Contracts. These Contractors will request you to track down specific machine parts, and will send you out exploring the various regions of the map.
You can complete these as and when you come across them, or leave them for a little later on. However, it can be worth tackling for the reward alone. Here's everything you need to know about Salvage Contractors.
What Are Salvage Contractors?
Dotted throughout camps in the Forbidden West, Salvage Contractors are groups of people out in the wilds looking for machine parts. When you come across one, you can speak to them to help them out.
Each Contractor is out in the Forbidden West aiming to win a certain competition. They must create the best and most effective armor using the parts they can find. Aloy comes along and hears of this competition from Larend and Keruf – who can be first met in Barren Light before heading west – and will travel to find the other Contractors in order to help them all out.
Besides the quest itself, you can also trade with each Contractor, as they offer plenty of machine parts. So if you're looking for something specific but don't want to go out on a hunt, check in with them and see what's in stock.
Where To Find Each Salvage Contractor
There are four Salvage Contractors in the world of Horizon Forbidden West, and they can each be completed as part of a quest. Their locations can be seen on the maps above, in order of most likely discovery.
- Salvage Contractor: Barren Light – Just after leaving Barren Light and heading west, this camp can be found almost immediately. There will also be a quest marker if you spoke to Keruf in Barren Light.
- Salvage Contractor: The Greenswell – This camp can be found to the northeast of Scalding Spear. As soon as you have completed Repair Bay TAU and passed the mountains, this is the closest camp you can travel to.
- Salvage Contractor: The Stillsands – Among the desert ruins of Las Vegas, far south of Scalding Spear, this camp can be found northwest of Hidden Ember – it is near some Relic Ruins.
- Salvage Contractor: The Raintrace – Further west in the jungle, this camp can be found to the east of Thornmarsh and south of Fall's Edge. Watch out for Stalkers in the area, and you will have to battle some to help out the camp.
Each camp Contractor will offer you a few contracts – tackle them in any order and return to the camp to complete the Contracts. When all of these have been done, you will return to Larend at the Barren Light encampment for the final competition.
What Do You Get For Completing All Salvage Contracts?
After each group has crafted their armor, a scene will play out with Keruf judging them. By the end of it, you will receive the Oseram Artificer set – a combined armor set that is one of the most powerful armors in the game. You won't be able to unlock this early on in the game, and only after finding and completing all of the Salvage Contracts.
After completing this, you are still able to return to each camp and trade with the Contractors for machine parts.
