DIRT 5, the upcoming racing video game developed and published by Codemasters and set to be released on November 6, recently revealed its latest batch of new cars and locations. The fourteenth game in the Colin McRae Rally series has been steadily unveiling new details for fans via an ongoing series of online clips.
This week’s clip showcases the rallycross cars, including supercars from the FIA World Rallycross Championship. On the outside, rallycross race cars resemble standard European hatchbacks like the Peugeot 208 and the Citroen DS3, yet inside they’ve been stripped and redesigned for enhanced performance on all terrains.
In DIRT 5, players will be able to compete on 70 routes across ten different locations, including Arizona, Brazil, Morocco, China, Italy, New York City and Norway. The new clip shows cars racing under the Ponti di Vara bridge in Italy, famously used to transport Carrara marble between Genoa and Pisa. The new game can host a six-car race, although players can use up to 12 different cars in both single-player and multiplayer modes, as well as a four-player split-screen.
In addition to rallycross, DIRT 5 — which includes a dynamic weather system and seasons — will also feature ice racing, stadium super trucks, and off-road buggies. The game also introduces the Playgrounds mode, which allows players to design, edit, and race on their own custom racing routes, as well as add bumps, kickers, ramps, loops, tunnels and even rings of fire for extra excitement.
In other rally news, Codemasters recently got the exclusive license to the World Rally Championship series, which will begin as a five-year deal in 2023. The studio is currently planning to release its first game in this new series in 2024.
DIRT 5 will be released for Microsoft Windows, PS4 and Xbox One on November 6, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S to follow later in the year. Meanwhile, the Stadia version is set to launch in 2021. Players who opt for the Xbox One version will get a free upgrade for Xbox Series X/S without losing any game progress they’ve made.
