New Monster Hunter Rise Gameplay Video Shows Off Great Sword In Action

Capcom has released over seven minutes of Monster Hunter Rise footage, showing off the deadly Great Sword in action. In the clip, you’ll witness the beginning of a typical Monster Hunter mission, showing off map traversal, resource collecting, and a bit of heavy-hitting combat once the target is finally tracked down.

The footage starts out slow, showing off mechanics we’ve already seen – such as the Wirebug, a cool new grappling hook that helps with the map’s added verticality. The player in the video also uses it to slow their fall, before hopping onto a trusty mount and speeding around the plains below.

Combat begins at around the 4:30 mark in the video, showing off the usual assortment of slow, devastating attacks unique to the Great Sword class of weapons. However, it looks like the Wirebug helps make the weapon more versatile and agile during battle, as you’ll be able to quickly dodge incoming attacks with the new item.

One of the coolest new moves sees our hunter using the Wirebug to fly high above their target, before pulling out their Great Sword and bringing it crashing down on the monster below. You can check it out in the following clip:

Monster Hunter Rise is shaping up to be a compelling new entry in the franchise – and the first new installment exclusive to Nintendo Switch. Right now the best way to get your Monster Hunting fix on Switch is with Generations Ultimate – a reworked version of the iconic 3DS game. Monster Hunter World never came to the hybrid console, and fans who own a Switch are itching to get their hands on some new content.

Nintendo Switch will also see the release of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin in the summer of 2021. There’s still much we don’t know about the upcoming title, but next year is shaping up to be a strong one for the franchise.

Monster Hunter Rise is scheduled to release on March 26, 2021 and is exclusive to Nintendo Switch.
