The current global Nintendo Switch stock shortages could be being driven by artificial demand, as it’s believed that resellers are using bots to buy up consoles as soon as they become available.

It’s currently incredibly difficult for people to purchase new Nintendo Switch units around the world, as the demand for the system is off the charts. This is due to the self-isolation period leaving a lot of people with free time on their hands, so a trip to Hyrule or the Galar region seems like a great way for gamers to entertain themselves. There is also the recent release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons to consider, as the game has seen incredible success and the fact that people are heavily promoting it on social media means that all eyes are on Tom Nook’s travel packages.

Nintendo has been struggling to keep Nintendo Switch units in stock, due to the lockdown period shutting down production facilities around the world. As such, many fans are at the mercy of the second-hand market if they wish to purchase a Switch of their own.

Bird Bot is free to download and retailers in the US seemingly lack a strategy to prevent people from buying up Switch units using online tools. They likely don’t care too much, as the sale is the same for them, regardless of who buys it. The people who are going to be hurt by this are the ones who want to use the Nintendo Switch to help pass the time for the foreseeable future and will be forced to pay more than the going rate in order to enjoy the system.
