PS5 UI REVEALED: Sony drops surprise State of Play outlining PS5 OS

PS5 fans have today found out all they need to know about the PlayStation 5’s UI thanks to a surprise State of Play that Sony has dropped out of the blue. The deep dive into the PS5 UI lasts for over 11 minutes, with Sony showcasing the sleek new operating system and explaining the features of it. Announcing the PS5 UI reveal, the official PlayStation Twitter posted: “Surprise! Watch a tour of PS5’s next-generation user experience in a special episode of State of Play, presented in 4K”.

While a blog post Sony said: “With less than a month until launch, we’re thrilled to share our very first look at the PlayStation 5 console’s user experience (UX).

“The new UX is completely centered on the player – to provide you a truly next-generation experience with deeper immersion that quickly connects you to great games and a passionate gaming community.”

One of the big new features of the PS5 UI will be the Control Centre will provides “immediate access” to almost everything you need at the single press of a button.

All of these options will be displayed to a PS5 user without leaving a game.

Elsewhere the PS5 UI adds a new feature called Activities which brings you “closer to the key elements of gameplay”.

Explaining how this works Sony said: “Activities are displayed via on-screen cards in the Control Center, which enables you to discover new gameplay opportunities, go back to things you missed, jump directly into levels or challenges you want to play, and much more.

“Some Activity cards can be put in picture-in-picture mode, so you can view them without having to leave the game.”

The PS5 makers added: “Navigating the interface, switching between games, and hopping into online matches occurs quickly, as we rebuilt the entire software stack from the console to the network to bring you a truly next-generation experience.

“We believe the less time you spend waiting to interact with the system, the more time you will have to spend playing games.”
