Sony has announced that the PS5 will finally be available in India on February 2. The company had initially failed to secure its own IP in the country and comply with local regulations, which delayed the arrival of the next-gen console to the second-most populous country in the world. Now that Sony has met all requirements, the PS5 can finally make its debut in India.
There is still uncertainty as to how well the launch will go. According to several retailers who have spoken to IGN India, Sony has not yet confirmed their PS5 stock quantities for launch. Buyers are also advised to preorder on January 12 to ensure that a console will be available for them on February 2.
Although Sony has not stated exactly how many PS5s would be available in India at launch, IGN has estimated that there could be between 12,000 and 15,000 consoles up for grabs. In comparison, the PS4 was launched in India with 4,500 units on January 6, 2014 and sold out soon after.
The PS5 India price is Rs. 49,990 for the disc variant and Rs. 39,990 for the digital edition. According to the official PlayStation India account, numerous stores across the country will stock the PS5, including Games The Shop, aka GTS, Amazon India, ShopAtSC, Vijay Sales, Croma, Reliance Digital and Flipkart, which is owned by Walmart.
The PS5 will have a 12-month warranty in India, meaning consumers are entitled to a replacement unit rather than a repair if the system presents problems. Meanwhile, the DualSense controller and accessories like the HD Camera and media remote have no warranty or after-sales support. Sony has also announced that day one buyers in India will receive a certificate or bonus with their purchase, though the company has not yet specified what these might be.
At launch, there will be a number of PS5 titles available in India, including Demon’s Souls, Destruction Allstars, Marvel Spiderman: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition, Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Cyberpunk 2077.
