After seven long years, Ray’s The Dead is finally coming to PlayStation 4 and PC.
Games sometimes run into production issues that force them to have a delayed-release. Halo Infinite and Cyberpunk 2077 are two games that immediately come to mind. However, there are few games that were delayed for so long that it is more than reasonable to assume that the project had simply died somewhere in the production phase. Luckily, Ray’s The Dead has been resurrected and is finally coming to PS4 and PC a full seven years after its reveal trailer appeared.
Ray’s The Dead was announced at E3 way back in 2013 when the world was a simpler place and the only virus we had to worry about was the one in The Walking Dead. The game was originally meant to be released on the PS4, PS Vita, and PC at the time. Since then, the PS Vita port has been dropped, but the game will be coming to the PS5 thanks to backwards compatibility.
In Ray’s The Dead, you’ll be playing as Ray LaMorte as he tries to figure out what led to his death and why he’s a zombie — and also why there’s a lightbulb in his head. You’ll have the ability to command an army of zombies through both puzzles and combat, all the while deciding which zombie is best for the given scenario.
There are 40 hand-crafted levels to play through, with around eight to ten hours of total gameplay. Special attention was given to the game’s art, as it boasts over 3,000 hand-drawn sprites to marvel at during your adventures. Of course, that’s not the only artistic aspect that you should notice, as the game’s ’80s setting will come with a synth-pop soundtrack to complete the ambiance.
If you’re worried about the short campaign, you’ll be happy to know that there are choices that you’ll need to make that will change the ending of the game. This means that there is an opportunity to collect all of the endings if you feel so inclined.
Ray’s The Dead will be released on October 22, just in time for Halloween.
