There’s no denying it: Returnal is a tough game. The enemies that you will find across Atropos are ruthless, and will stop at nothing to kill you over and over. Whether you are struggling to kill Phrike in the Overgrown Ruins, or you have already made your way to the Fractured Wastes, you will need to always be looking for ways to heal.
This guide will cover everything you need to know about healing in Returnal.
What Is Silphium In Returnal?
Silphium is a resource that you will find throughout Atropos. It can heal you for a set amount of Integrity. The amount that it heals you by is determined by the size of the Silphium chunk. These can come in various sizes, ranging from small to large.
- Silphium chunks heal you the moment that you pick them up, and cannot be carried.
Fortunately, there is a consumable version that allows you to heal instantly whenever you need it. Silphium Vials are items that you can carry in your inventory. When your health falls low, you can use the Vial to restore some Integrity, which could get you out of a bad situation.
These are found randomly across Atropos, and can also be made at some Fabricators. The items available at a Fabricator are also random, so you’ll have to hope a Silphium Vial pops up during your run.
What Are Inert Reclaimers?
You should find Silphium almost everywhere on Atropos, so you should never need to worry too much. However, if you are struggling to locate any Silphium, you can also look for an Inert Reclaimer.
- These allow you to lie down and heal yourself during a run.
Reclaimers can be found on side paths in most biomes. Interact with them to start a short cutscene and restore your health.
What Is Silphium Resin In Returnal?
Silphium Resin looks very similar to Silphium. However, rather than healing you, it raises your maximum Integrity. Every time you collect three pieces of Silphium Resin, your health cap goes up. These are found randomly in every biome. They are quite common, so they’ll appear frequently during a run.
Silphium Resin also comes in different sizes. Large Silphium resin counts as two pieces. The amount needed to raise your max health can be raised or lowered by various effects in Returnal. Certain Artefacts might make it lower, whilst Parasites and Malfunctions could make it higher.
Can You Heal At The Crashed Ship In Returnal?
Whilst exploring the first biome, you can always return back to the crashed ship. If you go inside, you will find a bed. Sleeping in this bed heals you back to full health, just like Inert Reclaimers do.
Note: This cannot be used after traveling to the Crimson Wastes, as you can’t return to the ship from that point.
